Bambara Family
Working and Performing with Bambara Drum and Dance Ensemble is an honor and a privilege, but above all it is family. I know that I have worked hard throughout my career to finally get to a place where I can collaborate and work with the highest levels of artistic mastery within the field. I am constantly challenged to reach higher levels of professionalism and I’m surrounded by greatness and supported by Love! Co-Founders and Directors Jewel Love and Joe Barnes are pillars in the African Dance community in NYC. They founded Bambara originally as a place to cultivate young artists and set an example of true professionalism within the world of African arts. Musical Director Adewole Love was by far the most accomplished African-American musician within the world of traditional West African and Afro-Cuban folkloric music and culture. Born into a family of tremendous artists, dancers and drummers, and renowned in both Cuba and Guinea, Ade had a tremendous impact on the levels one can reach in performance ability and teaching accolades with lifetime of dedication and intense study. His Sister Noelani Love, the Assistant Artistic Director of Bambara Drum and Dance Ensemble, is an amazing choreographer in both West African and Afro-Cuban dance styles. Like Ade, she has also dedicated her life to West African dance, and Afro-Cuban arts and culture.
